"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us." - Charles Dickens
Since NutriGold’s launch a few years ago, people have asked me what my inspiration was for launching my own brand of supplements. I half-jokingly respond that I started NutriGold for the same reason I decided to have children–it honestly seemed like a good idea at the time. Like parenthood, I was too focused on the rewards and payoffs to think about the sleepless nights, the blood, sweat, and tears, the physical, emotional and psychological toll, the sacrifices, and, of course, the endless loop of anxiety and guilt that goes with starting something that had the potential to impact so many lives. Even now, after all these years, there are days when I obsess and worry about NutriGold more than I worry about my children (my poor kids, I know), and the only thing that keeps me from crossing the line over to complete insanity is the knowledge that I am doing something good, that I am a part of something bigger than myself, and that I am making a small, but meaningful, difference in this world.
I won’t lie to you–those early days following NutriGold’s launch were brutal in a morale-crushing kind of way. The more I learned about the industry, the less I understood it, and the more I understood, the less I liked what the industry had to offer. I struggled to get on board with the ‛anything goes‘ and ‛business as usual’ attitude that seemed to be reflected in the quality of products by some of the biggest brands in the industry. Rather than complementing the efforts and accomplishments of my predecessors, it appeared that my vision of making clean label supplements without GMOs, Magnesium Stearate, and allergens would be somewhat of a misfit in the industry. To add insult to injury, my vision was dismissed as “esoteric,” something that the vast majority of consumers would either not understand or care about and, therefore, not worth pursuing. So, instead of looking forward to being inspired by those who had come before me, I began to wonder if the industry’s existing status quo would actually come in the way of bringing my vision to life.
I expected to fight my fair share of battles in my quest to bring my vision of making the cleanest and purest supplements to life, but
I was surprised that my hardest battle turned out to be finding a way to work around established ways of doing business in the industry. I was told time and again that what I wanted “simply could not be done,” and that I was “too idealistic.”
I was steadfast in my conviction that taking the path of least resistance and settling for what I could get rather than fighting for what consumers deserved was not an option for me or for NutriGold. I knew I could live with trying and failing in my efforts to make only the purest and cleanest products; what I could not live with was the knowledge that I had squandered my integrity in the pursuit of profitability.
So, guided by our philosophy of excellence, we persevered through those difficult times, fought the temptation to cut corners, and eventually, against all odds, found a way to make my vision of making clean, therapeutically beneficial supplements a reality. The incredible success we enjoy today, as measured by our phenomenal growth and fiercely loyal customer following, is incontestable proof that it pays to “dream more than others think is practical, risk more than others think is safe, expect more than others think is possible, and care more than others think is wise.”
At the risk of sounding arrogant, I must admit that I am incredibly proud of how far we have come as a company and how much we have accomplished in our relatively short existence so far. From taking on an entire industry to challenging established ways of doing business, from rejecting the use of Magnesium Stearate to advocating against the use of GMOs, from voluntarily performing more third-party testing on all of our raw materials and finished products than what is required by current Good Manufacturing Practices to empowering consumers through education to make informed purchasing decisions, we have been instrumental in not just raising the bar on quality, but defining it for industry to follow.
What makes NutriGold the TRUE gold standard in nutritional supplements is the fact that we don’t do any of the things we do to make a statement, to prove the people who said “it couldn’t be done” wrong (although, that’s certainly a bonus), to be controversial, to differentiate our brand, or to use it as justification for charging a "premium" price for our products like others do.
We do what we do because our company is defined by integrity and that means doing the right thing, even if nobody’s going to know whether we did it or not.
Inspired by family, defined by integrity, driven by passion, motivated by a genuine desire to promote wellness, and powered by the best and brightest talent the industry has to offer, taking care of our customers will never be just business as usual at NutriGold® - it has been and will always be personal.
